The Spirit of Spring
Begin spring. The air was becoming much softer and sweet smells were drifting along with the winds. It was still a little chilly but people gathered in the fields without their jackets and scarves. The women were dressed in colorful dresses as the men wore short shorts and linen shirts. Everyone was singing, dancing and talking excitedly about the summer to come. It had been an harsh winter, harsher than previous years and the people grew weary at the fact that they had to stay inside their homes for so long. But they forgot all about that when spring knocked on their doors.
People were happy, gathered around and greeted old friends on this beautiful day. A woman skipped out of the crowd, on her way to find some peace and quit to enjoy this new weather. She was the oldest of 14 children and was glad she could escape of the crowdedness of the people. She sighed happily when she was a few yards away. A soft breeze caught her hair and played with it, as she closed her eyes and enjoyed it.
She felt a tug on her arm and she let her being dragged around the field. She twirled and her dress twirled with her. She was spun a few times. She didn’t want to open her eyes, because it was someone she knew. Maybe her father or one of her brothers. She was pressed against a well toned chest and felt the warmth radiating from it.
A warm breath covered her ears and he whispered with a low voice: “Can I keep you?”
She giggled which surprised her, because she clasped her mouth shut with her hand. After a few seconds she released her mouth and whispered back: “Yes, always.”
The sent of flowers, of fresh fruit and freshly mooed grass became stronger as she felt two soft but strong lips upon her, kissing her ever so gently. She kissed him back, unsure of what she just had promised.
“You ever heard of the spirit of spring?” He asked gently, while he caressed her hair.
She nodded softly, remembering that when a harsh winter left the ground cold and bare, the spirit of spring would single a woman out as a prize and will grant the people of the town fertile land.
“And you still came voluntarily?” He asked softly surprised.
“I wanted to meet you.” She said softly.
“Why would you want that?” He asked pulling her even closer.
She shrugged her shoulders and whispered: “Because my hart told me to.” She pushed herself a little off of him and opened her eyes. The boy wanted to tell her no, but when he gazed in her green eyes, he scooped her up and twirled her around.
“You can see me!” He exclaimed joyfully and spun her around once more.
The girl laughed at his wonder, because she had to look hard to see him. At first she saw nothing more than a wind figure with grass, leafs and flower petals. The harder she looked she saw bright blue eyes, dark short curly hair and toned body. She was afraid that he was naked but a small linen cloth was wrapped around his waste.
He stopped twirling, let her down and pressed his lips on her again. This time she didn’t hesitate and flung her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.
“Do you trust me?” He asked when he pulled his lips from hers.
She only nodded in response and let out a soft shriek, when she felt him jump high up in the air, pulling her along. The wind became stronger, pulling at her hair, her dress, even her skin. She wanted to scream, but his lips silenced her and she clung her entire body to his. She felt herself becoming lighter, even lighter then air.
“Open your eyes.” He said softly, nuzzling his head in her hair.
She opens them, confused at the fact that they are closed. And she looks, down upon her body that is laying in the green soft grass, peacefully and at rest. In her hands rests a golden flower, also know as a Gift of spring. She knows that the shine of the flower reflects the length of the grace of spring. She notice that the flower is shining brightly and she covers her eyes by the brightness of the flower.
“When will it stop to shine?” She asked carefully to the boy next to her.
“Never.” He says with an honest smile and places a small kiss on her temple.
“Never?” She asks unsure and the tilts her head in confusion.
“I’ve found my queen, so spring will always come, even after the harshest winters.” He says with a broad smile.
She smiles back, finally at ease of what this all means. Her people will always be able to grow enough food for each and any human on the planet. She is shook out of her thought when he drags her into another dance. She laughs and giggles while the wind carries them to her mourning parents who can’t help themselves and both smile at the noise the wind is carrying.
They dance across the globe, sometimes touching the cold soil, reviving it and mostly dancing on the winds forever happy and both laughing out of pure joy.
